Join our third DKTK School of Oncology Tech Talk in 2023 with Dr. Janne Vehreschild who will talk about "Real world Clinical Cancer Data for Your Research: State of the Art 2023". After his presentation there will be ample opportunity to ask questions to the speaker and to engage in a lively discussion.
Even in Germany, digitalization in healthcare is slowly, but steadily on the rise, bringing new opportunities for data-driven research. Numerous public and private initiatives are competing to be the first to gain (and hopefully provide) access to comprehensive datasets of data from clinical routine and/or biosamples, but actual available sources remain limited. Once obtained, real-world data (RWD) comes with considerable strengths: case numbers can be extremely high and allow analysis of rare subpopulations and testing of complex hypotheses and/or definition of complex phenotypes of disease und treatment courses. In general, once data processes and interfaces have been successfully established, real-world data can be fast and cheap, without the need to establish complex study groups with protocols and electronic data capture systems for a prospective data collection. However, RWD also has inherent limitations regarding data quality and completeness, and also has intrinsic biases that need to be considered before jumping to conclusions. In this seminar, we take a tour through the risks and chances of RWD and where you can find them, with a focus on the Clinical Communication Platform of the German Cancer Consortium.
